The Puppy Luv Pet Salon helps fundraise ‘Well of the Desert’s’ mission to feed the homelessby Michael Gonzalez
The Puppy Pet Luv Salon held a fundraiser to benefit the valley’s homeless on Monday, April 23, with proceeds going to the Well in the Desert charity. The Pet Salon helped raise approximately $1000 through admission costs of $25 and a raffle contest; and San Gorgonio Girl Scout Troop 835 donated over $400 raised through neighborhood cookie sales.
Well in the Desert is a non-profit organization that helps the homeless with daily nutritional meals, emergency food assistance and supplementary food distribution. The organization was started in 1996, and has continued to help the homeless in Palm Springs for the past 16 years.
Salon owner, Donna Lopez, is a 40-year veteran of the pet grooming business, previously serving celebrity clients including Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope. “I am blessed to help the homeless through donations collected from the fundraiser, and I hope that I will be doing something like this again in the future,” said Lopez, who normally charges $45 for pet grooming.
Organizing for the event had been ongoing for the past three months, with some official planning changes by Well of the Desert and the Pet Salon. Raffle prizes included a 22-inch flatscreen TV, an autographed book, as well as gift certificates for two-for-one dinners at local restaurants. The raffle contest cost $5 for six tickets each.
