Fostering Knowledge, a club that offers outreach to  foster children living  in the Coachella Valley, is holding a Christmas toy drive.  This event will run from October 29 through December 13 and will be open from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. daily.

Fostering Knowledge is a club where foster students get support with resources including financial aid, and programs that can help them reach their goals. Fostering Knowledge also accepts members that have not been adopted but want to learn what it is like being adopted.

President of Fostering Knowledge, Julian Alcantar, stated “The club is open to everyone at COD and helps out everybody in the community.” He would like more students at COD to connect to the foster children community in the desert.

The student club has been around since Spring 2011. Fostering Knowledge meets on Thursdays at the Cravens Student Center in Room 265 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Counselor Fred Sangiorgio, is the advisor for Fostering Knowledge at COD. “The students of the club remind me that you can achieve your goals while living against all odds,” said Sangiorgio.

After the drive is finished, mattress company, Sleep Train Mattresses (STM) will deliver the toys from COD to  foster children in the Coachella Valley and at STM Center in Redlands. Sangiorgio believes that the mattress company is efficient and a great advocate for the student club.

The student club will also be hosting a movie night at COD on December 6. The group has not decided where the event will be located. However,  ticket sales for the movie will be donated to foster children groups in the Coachella Valley. It has not been decided what will be showcased, but it will be a Christmas film.

If you want to donate toys to the club, place them in the barrels or bins at the the Cravens Student Center, the Math Science Technological Center, Child Center, or Student Life. You can also drop the toys at the reception desk at Sangiorgio’s Counseling Office.
