Community organizations appreciate help from volunteers
by Gabriel Robles
As the holiday season gets into full swing, many local community organizations need volunteers. Volunteering does not only help those in need; it can also help people gain an appreciation for just how fortunate they are. There are truly so many options when it comes to helping out that finding something interesting is easy.
Non-Profit organizations like the Living Desert in Palm Desert and the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission in Coachella, cater to different needs of different individuals; however, help is greatly appreciated by all of those who benefit from it.
At the Living Desert, volunteers can help with a wide variety of things like working in the Petting Kraal, educating in the Discovery Center, touring guests through the Tennity Wildlife Hospital, or helping with the ever so popular train exhibit. Weekend Ambassador positions are also open to those who would like to volunteer on Saturdays and Sundays exhibiting biofact/interactive carts and sharing information about various plants and animals throughout the zoo.
Those interested in helping organizations that help the less fortunate and homeless in their community can help via non-profit organizations like the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission or Martha’s Village. Programs like these help not only feed, clothe, and shelter those in need, they also help beneficiaries get back on their feet so they may one day be in a position to give back to others the help that they so generously received.
Those looking to help on a slightly larger scale can also help by lending a hand to their local Habitat for Humanity organization. Habitat for Humanity is another non-profit organization that helps provide safe, decent, and affordable housing to those who qualify and are willing to work for it. Volunteers are gladly accepted and there is a wide range of volunteer opportunities.
These are just a few humble ways to help give back this season, but there are so many options out there. Giving back to those in need gives less fortunate people a feeling of normality and even hope, but the feeling of helping work with others to make a difference for the better in someone’s life is a feeling of accomplishment that trumps almost anything. Again there are many different types of opportunities to help, so pick one and lend a helping hand this season. It will be more appreciated then ever expected.
