Freelee, known as the “Banana Girl,” can eat up to 51 bananas a day. Freelee says, “An average breakfast for me is about 10 to 15 bananas” she also says, “it is very healthy, makes you feel amazing and very good for you.” Freelee started this extreme fruit diet 7 years ago. She claims to have lost 50 pounds and has overcome chronic fatigue syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, anorexia, bulimia and has improved her thyroid function. Nutritionists question her diet and believe she has a protein deficiency. In an interview, Freelee said, “The world health organization,  back in the 70’s discovered through scientific testing that we only need 2.5 percent of calories from protein.” She states that her fruit diet consists of 5 percent protein saying, “she’s got it covered.” Freelee also says that she wants to spread the word and get people to eat healthier. She has written a book, created a website,  a YouTube channel called “Freelee the Banana Girl” and an Instagram account of the same name, where people can be inspired by the banana diet and her fruitarian lifestyle. Her YouTube channel has had over 25 million views and about 200,000 subscribers. In one of her YouTube videos titled “The ultimate cleanse, the bananas only diet,” she informed viewers that bananas improved energy levels, skin, nails, and is an amazing experience. Nutritionists state that bananas are 105 calories contain 1.3 percent protein and have a high level of vitamin A, B and D. Freelee emphasizes to all of her viewers that there should absolutely be no calories restriction she says, “Carb up.” Freelee continues to eat fruit and plant base foods saying, “the proof is in the banana pudding.” The fruitarian consumes about 2,000 to 5,000 calories a day from fruit.
