“I’m a girl from a small farm and this isn’t supposed to be my life right now,” said Clare Dunn to hundreds of audience members as she performed on Stagecoach Festival’s Mane Stage on Saturday, April 25. With her guitar in hand, the songstress belted out a series of powerhouse anthems that made the crowd go wild, including “Cowboy Side of You,” “Get Out,” and “Misery.”
“I was so excited to play at Stagecoach. I was at home watching the festival on my TV last year, and it was a huge thing for me. I’ve never performed in California, so finally being able to do that in such a big festival really blew my mind,” revealed Dunn.
Hailing from rural southeast Colorado, young Clare Dunn had a dream to make it big in the country music industry. Now that dream has transpired into a full-fledged reality as the rising star released two high-charting singles and has toured with the likes of Florida Georgia Line, Hank Williams, Jr., and Keith Urban.
“Growing up, I was always obsessed with sounds, and my parents introduced me to all sorts of music. I listened to Alan Jackson, George Strait, Whitney Houston, and Eric Clapton, but I think I knew I wanted to get into music when I first heard Creedence Clearwater Revival when I was seven or eight,” recalled Dunn.
The country up-and-comer graduated from Belmont University where she originally studied to be a music business major, but ended up majoring in songwriting. Soon after college, Clare Dunn started a publishing deal as a songwriter and pursued a career in the country music industry. “I’ve admired country music for such a long time because they really are story songs. There’s this sort of detailed storytelling involved in the genre that I’ve connected with. I was raised listening to it; it’s what I know and where I come from,” she stated.
Once she realized her calling, the twangy singer honed her songwriting skills to create a catalogue of her own material. Dunn’s catchy, upbeat tracks pull listeners in by the collar until they find themselves grooving to the rhythmic hooks and riffs. “Each song is so special to me–it’s hard to pick just one as a personal favorite. I’m so proud of each one for different reasons,” said Dunn.
Recently, Clare Dunn has signed to Universal Music Group Nashville and has a new single slated to come out sometime in June. “I’ve been so blessed with all I have been able to do so far in my career. I always like to make sure the audience has a good time, and when I see someone’s face in the crowd, I know I’m doing the right thing,” explained the singer.
Where does Clare Dunn hope to see herself in life ten years from now? “Well, I hope to have a family someday, and to just keep making music and whatever makes me happy. I think that’s most important.”
