Solutions back in business

As you all might have seen, the “Solutions” student kiosk is back in business!

For those who don’t know about this kiosk, it is located between the Sociology and Science buildings on campus at College of the Desert. The student kiosk is open from Monday thru Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Not only is it a huge craving reliever, it is also an amazing program. There are 18 students running the kiosk just for you, and every single one of them is an equal manager in this job. Directed by Dr. Kelly Hall and Professor Robert Holmes, this program is a great benefit, not only to the business major but also to every COD student.

These 18 students are in charge of every aspect of the program, from deciding what product will be sold, what hours it will operate, to determining the right price for the college student. They are taught every aspect of their business major and are given the opportunity to put it into practice.  Professor Holmes said, “As far as I know, there is no program like this one in any other community college in Southern California.”

Not only does this amazing program help its business students, it also benefits the overall college community.  After the expenses of the business are paid, the profits are returned to COD to benefit clubs and scholarships. “Students are encouraged to make mistakes in order to learn.

They can test their ideas here before they venture into the business world,”  said Professor Holmes. So next time you have a craving but also a class in five minutes, make a quick stop at your college kiosk and not only will you satisfy your craving but you will also help support your college!
