College of the Desert recently invested in yellow buckets that serve as lock-down kits in case of an emergency.
The buckets are five gallons and are filled with items such as toilet paper, medical supplies, food, water and the bucket itself can be used as a toilet. They are intended for emergencies where there are people trapped in an area due to a natural or man-made catastrophe. Unfortunately, they are new to the school and have not been placed everywhere yet. Director of Public Safety, Tim Nakamura, stated that there will be a conversation soon about where to place them. There is no special training to use the emergency lock-down kit. Nakamura is sure that anyone should be able to use the contents of the emergency lock-down kit in an emergency.
