Men’s golf update

Here is your golf update. Approaching the 7th event of the 2018 season and the 2nd week of Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, College of the Desert’s men’s golf won their first event of conference, hosted at the North Course of Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla on March 12.

The Roadrunners came out on top, first out of five teams with sophomore, Bobby Kim hitting 3-under 69 to take the lead and freshman Clement Heurtin who nailed a hole-in-one on the Par 3, third hole with an extent of 183 yards which put him third on the leader board and second on the team.

With continuation of success, freshman Eric Pizzulli had a solid three-over, 75 on the morning. freshman Nicklaus Marshall and freshman Joseph Bogaert both hit a four-over 76. And finally, freshman Mitchel McComber hit a six-over 78 COD to wrap up the round for the Roadrunners placing them at top six and with 369 points.

The event prior to the first week of PCAC was Mar. 5 at the annual So Cal Regional Preview, hosted at the Bakersfield Country Club where COD finished 6 out of 16 teams. The team went up against “heavy hitters,” said by COD Athletics, including the 2017 CCAA State Champion College of the Canyons Cougars, alongside 2017 Finals runner-up Cypress Chargers, the entire Western State Conference, 3 members of the Orange Empire Conference and 4 members of the PCAC.

At Bakersfield, the men finished with 383 points with only 18 strokes behind winner, Orange Coast. Bogaert was the team’s leader, shooting a two-over 74 and Kim hit a solid, four-over, 76 on the day. McComber and Pizzilli tied at 77 and both players shot a five-over. And finally sophomore Samuel Berglund hit a solid seven-over, 79 and sophomore Tyler Smith hit a nine-over, 81 putting the Roadrunners at top six to end the event.

COD will continue their PCAC play as of March 19 at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont. And the team will be at their third conference event March 21 at the Gary Player Golf Club in Rancho Mirage. Come out and get some fresh air as the Roadrunners continue on their journey this 2018 season.
