St. Patrick’s Day Fatality takes Soccer Player’s life

In remembrance of Daniel Rivera-Acosta of Palm Desert.

In the wake of St. Patrick’s day, an eyewitness reported to Palm Springs police, a two-car wreck at 2:07 a.m. that involved Daniel Rivera-Acosta, 21 of Palm Desert and Yesenia Hurtado-Guiterrez, 25 of Coachella. The fatality occurred near East Palm Canyon Drive between South Palm Canyon and Via Salida. Both were pronounced dead at the scene and the second driver faced life-threatening injuries, who was immediately rushed to a local hospital. The cause of the crash is still unconfirmed.

The Chaparral Newspaper and COD Athletics sends their greatest condolences to those who were involved in this tragedy as well as the family and friends of Daniel, Yesenia and the second driver who is not yet identified.

“COD Athletics sends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, teammates, and coaches of Daniel Rivera, following his tragic passing last Saturday. Daniel was a member of the Men’s Soccer team, as a player in 2016-17, and a student-coach in 2017-18. His passing is a tremendous loss for the Roadrunner family,” COD Athletics said.
