As sports media continues to adapt in an age where social media and online news sources dominate sports news coverage, radio continues to be a commanding platform across the nation. With College of the Desert hosting a variety of sports programs throughout all athletic seasons, KCOD’s “Roadrunner Sports Weekly” is a biweekly source for all news, recaps, updates and interviews pertaining to your favorite Roadrunner teams.
The show features host Alexandro Zatarain as he breaks down all of the biggest storylines in Roadrunner sports, giving the in-depth analysis, game recaps, and coach interviews for all teams on campus. “I think it’s important because while otherwise, sports here on campus don’t get as much coverage, it gives the athletes an opportunity to get the exposure they deserve,” said Zatarain.
Zatarain is a former student at COD, who returned to campus in 2017 to complete courses in media and journalism. Currently, when he’s not on the air covering Roadrunner Sports or serving as the Sports Director for KCOD CoachellaFM, Alex is employed as a Media Lab Technician and also assists in the production of The Chaparral. He recently began producing KCOD’s first sports podcast, “Work the Wire,” a weekly NFL fantasy football show hosted by COD students.
“Roadrunner Sports Weekly” began in the spring of 2017, and has been a mainstay in KCOD’s regularly scheduled programming since. You can catch Zatarain and his soon to be a co-host, Abraham Cervantes Wednesdays from 7:3o p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on 1450AM and soon to be 99.9FM.
