Indio, the city of festivals, will host the 24th annual Tamale Festival this December. The festival takes place all throughout old town Indio, will be held from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday Dec. 5 and from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday Dec. 6.
The Tamale Festival was founded in 1992 by Dave Hernandez and has become an international sensation. It is listed among the top 10-All American food festivals according to the Food Network. Those who attend this weekends festivities will have the opportunity to try many different tamales, from traditional to unconventional, from 300 plus vendors.
This year the festival will host a tamale eating contest, for true tamale lovers. There will be live bands performing on five stages scattered throughout the festival, two beer and wine gardens, one which will feature craft beer, and there will also be a Selena look-a-like contest in memory of the late Tejano singer.
