I-10 going West towards LA was bumper to bumper on Monday morning. Coachella Festival traffic and an early morning collision were the reason for slowing the westbound lanes. An accident closed three lanes for several hours west of Washington Street. There were four vehicles involved, including an RV.
Some of the festival goers said that they left La Quinta CA at 11, and two hours later, they were just passing Cabazon, a drive that should only take about 30 minutes.
There were multiple accidents with multiple vehicles and CHP had to close a lane on highway 10 making traffic much worse.
“We had about a 100,000 people in town, it’s just been a long day of heavy traffic on I-10,” said a CHP Officer Radford.
According to CBS. CHP Radford said that they are doing their best to help prevent these type of freeway accidents. “A lot of times when there is a collision and traffic backs up, sometimes it causes more collisions and we can only do as much as we can, but we are definitely out there getting it done as quick as we can so we can get the people out of here,” said Radford.
Now there are two more weekends of music festivals, and this problem could happen again the next two Mondays. That is why CHP is asking people who can, to avoid the freeway and areas around the polo grounds in Indio.
