College of the Desert’s Theatre Arts Department will present Christopher Durang’s esteemed comedy, Vanya, Sonia, Masha & Spike, on March 20-29 in the Pollock Theatre. The play follows the hijinks experienced by Vanya, his sister Sonia, and their clairvoyant housekeeper Cassandra when their Hollywood star sister Masha and her young boy toy Spike pay an unexpected visit.
The cast is made up of Mason McIntosh as Vanya, Leslie Benjamin as Sonia, Chloe Arnette as Masha, Florentino Carrillo as Spike, Miranda Hane as Cassandra, and Celeste Oliva as Nina. J.W. Layne is the Scenic & Lighting Designer. Philip Houghton is the Properties Designer. The Costume and Sound Designer is Noemi Villela Dean, and the Makeup Designer is Miranda Hane.
“We usually do plays with large casts, however, this cast only has six people in it. It is a much smaller cast than we are used to working with, but it is also a very refreshing change of pace,” stated Director Tres Dean. “This play is a Tony Award Winner. The cast has to do it justice and I have to make sure the intentions of Christopher Durang are extremely clear. If we can do these things, then the audience is in for an extremely fun night of live entertainment.”
Vanya, Sonia, Masha & Spike will play at 7 p.m. on March 20, 21, 27 and 28, and at 3 p.m. on March 22 and 29. The price of admission for the general public is 18 dollars, 15 dollars for students, and ten dollars for groups of ten people or more. For tickets, please call 760-773-2565, or visit ticketleap.com/collegeofthedesert and collegeofthedesert.edu/performingarts. Students may also purchase tickets at the COD bookstore.
