Summer is almost here and many student’s schedules are calming down as the spring semester comes to an end. Many are looking for things to do that are cheap and close to home. This summer the Coachella Valley has much to offer while staying out of the heat. Residents can enjoy things like art exhibits, new independent films, shopping for fresh foods and indulging in their nerdy fantasies.
- The Palm Springs Art Museum is an exciting destination for locals to enjoy a wonderful array of art. The museum offers a wide variety of exhibits, and the indoor venue allows people to stay cool while enjoying the art our local museum has to offer.
- Palm Springs is also hosting it’s annual Short Film Festival June 21-27. The festival takes place at the Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs. The films will be announced June 9. Buying a ticket to a program will let film fanatics watch three independent films all under the theme of the program.
- Starting June 4, the Westfield Palm Desert will start holding an indoor farmer’s market every Sunday. This will let students escape the heat and shop for clothes and fresh groceries.
- Palm Springs Comic Con will come back to the Palm Springs Convention Center. On August 25-27, the convention center will host events like a costume contest, zombie walk and super sonic speed dating. Special guests include Tom Kenny, who voices Spongebob and the Ice King from Adventure Time. Dana Gaier who voices Edith from Despicable Me and the king of Marvel himself, Stan Lee.
Summer can be boring but this year the desert is hosting some fun events that can let students escape the blues of wondering what to do.
