The Indio Library has officially welcomed residents of the Coachella Valley into its fully remodeled building, now open and looking better than ever. The new library is located across from the Indio Campus of College of the Desert and next to Indio City Hall.
The updated space offers many of the same resources as the former Indio Library, along with several new features. It is filled with books for all ages, including young adult novels, manga and comic books, memoirs and science fiction. Books line the walls throughout the building. The library also features multiple study rooms for students and guests seeking a quiet space to read or work. Computer stations are available near the front of the library for public use. A separate event space is used to host programs and can be reserved for presentations and community events.
Several clubs are now available for young adults and children. A new book club launched Dec. 5 and is currently reading 1984. Other offerings include a STEAM club for children, held Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for ages 3 to 5 and Saturdays from 4 to 5 p.m. for ages 10 to 14. A teen club for ages 13 to 18 takes place Saturdays and features activities such as Wii Sports, crafts and snacks. Movie matinees will also continue every Saturday.
Storytime remains a staple at the Indio Library, offering children the chance to hear stories and participate in arts and crafts. It is held Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. Storytime on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 will take place earlier, from 3 to 4 p.m.
Many staff members who worked at the former Indio Library before it closed in November 2023 have returned and continue to serve the community.
The new Indio Library is located at 200 Civic Center Drive.
