“I’m just a big fan of rock shows. I struggle with depression, so it helps me get out of the house and do something that I love. Hear bands and music that I love and support local bands from the Coachella Valley. No matter where it is, we’ve got to stay together,” said Garcia.
Garcia also highlighted the importance of safety during the event.
“I love that it’s all ages and parents come with their kids. It’s safe for young teenagers too, no alcohol and no smoking. It provides a safe space for them and gives them something better to do instead of getting into trouble,” said Garcia.
Mushroom People, a System of a Down tribute band, headlined on April 11. The band formed in Mexicali in 2012 and is now based in the Coachella Valley.
David Fernandez, the band’s drummer, said he loved the event and expressed appreciation for the audience.
“My favorite part of the event is definitely the people, whether it’s the members of the other band that performed with us or the people in the audience,” said Fernandez. “We felt welcomed from the start of our set. The audience was there and more than willing to give us their time and attention.”
