Thousands of fans were excited outside the Acrisure Arena on Feb. 23 to see pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo on the opening night of her ‘GUTS’ Tour.
Fans went all out, dressing up in merchandise and costumes to match the lavender aesthetic of the tour. Many wanted to embody her style of grunge and girly elements, such as pairing platform Dr. Martens with dresses.
Before the concert, fans waited in line to check out exclusive merchandise from the concert truck. It was an opportunity for those who couldn’t secure a spot at the concert to purchase limited-edition items.
Rodrigo kicked off her second tour in support of her studio album ‘GUTS.’ Following the massive success of her first tour, The SourTour. The GUTS world tour is Rodrigo’s first arena tour and has already sold out, including the 20 additional tour dates that were added.
Rodrigo opened the show with her latest banger called “bad idea, right?” and fans sang along to the lyrics. “bad idea, right?” was the first single released before the album. Continuing her performance, she took the song set back to the Sour album featuring the song “traitor,” which is beloved by many. It was also the first time her dancers appeared on stage. The dancers did a contemporary number with graceful movements that gave an elegant performance.
During the songs “logical” and “enough for you”, Rodrigo floated over the audience on a glowing crescent moon. The crescent moon wasn’t just an incorporate imagery into her performance. The moon is associated with women’s empowerment and goddess energy. It is also seen as a transition in one’s life. Our interpretation of the moon symbolizes her growth as a musician and connects with her feminine energy.
The setlist included 22 songs, including “deja vu,” “brutal,” and “get him back.” She surprised the audience by grabbing her electric guitar to perform a bonus unreleased track, “Obsessed,” to seal the concert. The opening night of the GUTS Tour was a huge success that left the attendees craving more.
Rodrigo will continue her tour across North America and Europe, traveling to international destinations in Germany, Canada, Italy and Spain. Her final show will end in Los Angeles on August 14.
